Presenter: Judy Weintraub, Esquire

Ms. Weintraub is a certified mediator with the International Mediation Institute and a mediator and arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and for the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR).  She has taught ADR tools and techniques to bar associations, law firms and corporate counsel and has provided consulting services to businesses in developing and implementing dispute resolution systems. 

This course will review the ethical standards for mediators and include a discussion of some scenarios implicating ethical challenges that may arise during mediation.  In addition, the course will explore some tools and tactics for improving mediator performance.  In particular, this course will cover:


·        Section 2.4 of the PA Rules of Conduct
The ABA’s Model Rules of Conduct for Mediators

·         Discussion of ethical scenarios

·         3 important tools for enhancing mediator effectiveness:

o   Building a solid foundation

o   Tactics for handling difficult people

o   Tips for getting past impasse
